Owning your domain name is an absolute must. That is if you have all intentions of staying active on the web. Sure you can get "free" hosting with a subdirectory name, but then you have absolutetly no control over your fate. With your own domain name no one can change your URL (Web page address) therefore preserving your status with search engines and directories.
Initially you need to register your domain name, then renew your registration annually. Step two entails the configurations of the DNS (Domain name server). Here we tell the registrar on which server your site resides at.
